It's Tuesday, and we're in the mountains! :) So far, though, it has rained every day. Drizzling, mostly, during the day and POURING with lots of wind last night. Last night I woke Charlie up three times because I needed to ask him an important question..."Do you think the RV is going to blow over? "No, Babe." And there you have it. What was I thinking?
Anyway, we took the most beautiful drive yesterday from Sylva to Cashier. Simply gorgeous. Charlie was a little surprised at the hairpin turns. It was like riding a roller coaster! And the streams and waterfalls were breathtaking.
More later. Today we're driving the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Love,
Susan

Mountains in Springtime

End of day 2 we found an RV park outside of Waynesville. We were right on a creek! That would have been great, if we didn't turn around. Although the creek view was terrific, behind us it looked like something out of an old biker movie. Some of the RVs looked like they hadn't been moved since the 60's, and, let's say the people looked "vintage". Charlie said, "Nope".
So we moved to a nicer RV park yesterday. Much nicer, in Sylva. We found out about an art festival on Saturday and got to go. YAY! Lots of art! We enjoyed it until it started pouring! Boy, did it rain. The police went through the street with a megaphone telling everyone they had to leave, even the vendors, due to severe weather. Who ever heard of such a thing? I find it very suspicious that Charlie had time to walk through the whole thing, eat chicken on a stick and an apple turnover and I only got to go to a couple of booths before the whole thing closed.
I guess I forgot that April showers bring May flowers. Last night the storm gave us a good opportunity to see how the RV holds up in those conditions. Luckily we didn't see any of the tornadoes you probably heard about on the news, and the RV was great.Today, the weather cleared and we drove through the mountains. Following my expert mapping skills, I had us totally going in the wrong direction. After Charlie kept noting that there were no signs for Cherokee, I finally had to admit that I thought we MIGHT be going in the wrong direction. Funny, when I did that with Sandi, on our trip a few years ago, neither one of us noticed until we passed the same stores three times in the course of about 5 hours... hmmmm
"We" (Charlie) finally got us back on the right road and we had a wonderful, wonderful, day driving through Great Smokey Mountains National Park. We saw a mill, and also walked (most of the way) up a mountain to see a waterfall. Beautiful. Beautiful. I will post more pictures tomorrow.
Good night, all.

Day 2
Yesterday we took off in the RV at exactly 2:00, as scheduled! We left late so that we could stop in Savannah to spend some time with Norma and Tom, which we did. What a nice time. And it ended with a Chocolate Cake laced with Grey Goose Vodka and Kahlua!!!!! Go, Norma! (Hic-up) I, of course wouldn't have used Grey Goose for cake, but would have substituted with the cheap stuff (as all of my kids would tell you) and saved the Grey Goose for later!
This morning we got off bright and early to head towards Asheville, NC. EXCITING! I even got to drive for about 3 1/2 hours today.
The mountains in spring time. I can't wait.
Oh yeah...and we're still speaking to each other! :)

9:30 pm
The RV is pretty much packed and I haven't driven Charlie totally crazy yet. Only three months to go...
Name Change
Ok, ok. In keeping with my tradition of always changing my mind, I have changed this blogs web address. If you're reading this, you found us.
Late Tuesday Night (Really Early Wednesday Morning)
Charlie and I have been playing with our new map system for the RV. Street Atlas USA, by Delorme. YUK! It is currently taking me longer to figure out how to map out the trip to North Carolina using this program than it would take us to DRIVE to North Carolina. Debbie and Roger, I have been begging him to just let us use the new road atlas you gave us!!!! I'm sneaking it in the RV right next to me!

Getting Ready
Well, let's see how far I get with this blog. I thought I'd try to document our trip. I'm sure it won't be nearly as creative as Jonathan's but he is, after all, my son, and I'm sure some of his creative writing talents came from me!!!!
We are currently loading the RV. (Except for me hiding in here working on this blog.) Better get busy.
